So if I’m writing something out and make a mistake the workflow is simply tap on the eraser and erase what I need, release the pencil off of the iPad and then go back to writing with the last tool selected. One really key (to me!) feature that you didn’t cover is that the Goodnotes eraser has an auto de-select option. Previously, partial erasure was not available to Notability however, the recent updated rectified this. GN5 has a unique feature however, isn’t profound enough to provide an edge over the competition. Notability erases anything under the path of the mighty eraser.īoth programs allow you to change the size of the eraser and adjust whether you want to have whole or partial erasure IE all highlighted section or only part of highlighted section. GN5 is unique wherein you can change the eraser function to ONLY remove written or highlighted text. For those that simply want to write notes, as quickly as possible, you may find Notability's interface/UI in this respect better. Notability has only one pen with two different styles, after that it's dependent on the thickness of the pens/strokes akin to GN5. It just shows the two variations, thickness, and colors. It’s very similar to GN5 however, there’s not specific naming. Notability has two styles – Uniform vs Script (no actual names for this). GN5 has more options and preset settings, but you have to click to many things to navigate between the two. The three variations are listed in that way as it progresses towards more whispy writing. In addition, you can adjust the thickness of the writing. GN5 has 3 pen styles – Ball Pen, Fountain Pen, and Brush Pen. Then the zoom in writing box thing doesn’t even have any writing options on it, you gotta move your whole hand and break the flow of writing because they moved the tools for some reason!" "I don’t like the highlighting in GN5 because half of my highlight lines don’t straighten automatically, and half do Select the Text Tool, then hold down on a word to start highlighting." " FUN FACT: In Notability, you can highlight test using the Text Tool. This is a recent feature that was added in the most recent update. The highlighted section automatically straightens itself for an overall faster experience such that you can highlight in succession in contrast, Notability requires a small delay where you hold the pencile in place after highlighting to execute straigihtening of the text. Highlighting is a more mature feature on GN5. Please note, the comparison was based on my testing and experience with the respective applications.
